Life without Fear!
A public talk by Ginny Luedeman,CS, a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship, will be given at the Christian Science Reading Room at 3431 W. Cary Street, Richmond, Virginia, on Saturday, October 24, at 7 p.m. You are cordially invited to attend.
Life without fear - is such a life possible today, when there seems to be so much to be fearful about? What about the issues facing us every day - finances, health, children endangered or out of control, careers threatened by economic conditions, the challenges of life in the military? And then there are the global problems - economic, environmental, etc. Does fear, in some degree, seem to be a requirement to be responsible and concerned about these issues?
Ginny Luedeman learned how to face down fear through intelligent, responsible, effective prayer. Even when conditions were life-threatening or seemed hopeless, she overcame fear. For thirty years she's been helping others find comfort, confidence, and healing through prayer that doesn't just soothe fear, but lifts lives out of mind-sets and circumstances that induce fear and hide our capacity to live in a genuine state of dominion, safety, and well-being.

Watermelon Festival Pictures
Watermelon Festival! August 9 turned out to be a scorcher - a hundred degrees in the shade - but the temperature didn't keep the crowds at home. Second Church's tent in the middle of the street was busy with children having their faces painted while workers handed out Sentinels. The issue dealing with Spiritual Healthcare for Children was very popular. We had some interesting discussions, some of which continued inside the Reading Room for quite a while. Also inside the Reading Room, a large group of college-aged visitors visited and asked lots of great questions about Christian Science. Other first-time visitors expressed interest in finding out how we are different from the Scientology group headquartered just a block away, and we found we were able to clear up many misconceptions. Being a part of the Carytown festival is a wonderful way to open the Reading Room doors and bring us into the street with our fellow businesses. A few pictures follow!

2008's Watermelon Festival

Sunday the 10th was so much fun. Church members, both First and Second, joined over 100,000 people in the streets of Carytown to celebrate Watermelon! Our double tents in the middle of the street showcased Science and Health in every language in which it's published, as well as the King James Bible, the Christian Science Monitor, and the Sentinel. Pink balloons printed with the words http://www.spirituality.com/ were a huge hit and a great giveaway for children, and both the Monitor and Sentinels were popular giveaways. We answered questions about Christian Science, about healing, and about where people could get the Monitor on a regular basis. Face painting, a Doggie Rest Stop water bowl, and a free bottle of water with every book purchase, were huge hits. These pictures were taken during the day.
